AUDITIONS
Reefer Madness the Musical
When: Saturday, May 11, 1:30 pm - 5 pm
Where: South Shore Theatre Experience
Directed by Emily Vaeth ~ Musically Directed by Samantha LoBasso
Show dates are July 12, 13, 14, 18, 19 and 20.
All performers must be able to attend all performances and tech week rehearsal.
All roles are open. (See below.) Dancing experience is preferred, but not mandatory.
Bring a headshot and current resume.
Prepare 32 measures of a song in the style of the show and a short comic monologue. For singing, you may bring a backing track or sing a capella. Be prepared to read sides provided from the show. If you are unable to attend the audition, you may send a video audition to Executive Producer Steven Prendergast at steven.southshoretheatre@gmail.com
Roles:
Mary Lane (F18-25): Mezzo-Soprano, Jimmy's sweetheart, a naïve, virginal teenage girl.
Lecturer: Baritone, a severe authority figure who warns the audience of the perils of Reefer Madness.
Jimmy Harper (M18-25): Tenor, A wholesome, innocent, high school teenager who runs into trouble after he is lured into the dangerous world of reefer.
Jack Stone (M25-40): Tenor, The handsome and ruthless proprietor of the Reefer Den, a 30's gangster movie-type.
Mae (F 30-50): Alto, An attractive, yet slightly haggard dame in her mid-30s, the hostess of the Reefer Den.
Ralph Wiley (M18-25): Tenor, a denizen of the Reefer Den, formally a fraternity man, his college days ended long ago due to his reefer habit.
Sally (F18-30): Alto, a sexy and seductive resident of the Reefer Den, she possesses the libidinous soul of Mae West combined with the rat-a-tat moxie of vintage Barbara Stanwyck.
Placard Girl: Speaking role only, throughout the play she reinforces the warnings of the Lecturer by holding large signs that clearly state the moral of what we've just seen.
Ensemble : represent Reefer Zombies, Kids at the Five-and-Dime, Jungle Orgy dancers, Angels, and patriotic background chorus in the Star-Spangled finale.

All one acts plays based on Love, Death or BOTH!!!
Each one act must have only one set, maximum of 12 minutes and maximum of 6 characters.
